Discussion Forum Help

The Ontario Coalition for Inclusive Education invites open and honest discussion about topical issues.

The following outlines the main features of the discussion forum and gets you started reading and posting messages. For detailed information on specific topics, click on the FAQ button at any time while using the forums.

Conferences, Forums, and Topics

The Ontario Coalition for Inclusive Education discussion forums are arranged in a series of Conferences. A conference is a collection of related Forums; you may have a conference entitled Education that contains several forums, such as "Strategies with Boards", "Policy Discussion", "Funding Issues", "Teaching methods", etc.

Within each forum is one or more Topics, or Threads. A topic/thread is composed of an original message followed by a list of all messages posted as replies or follow-ups to the original. By default, the forum displays these as a table of contents to show the flow of discussion.

The Main Lobby

When you first enter the discussion forum, you are taken to the Main Lobby. The Main Lobby shows you a list of Conferences and the Forums in those Conferences. Each forum has a description, as well as information about the last time the forum was added to, and the number of topics and messages in the forum.

  • To enter a Forum, you simply click on the folder icon next to the forum name.

To get back to the main lobby from inside a forum, click on the word conferences just below the row of icons at the top of the window, or choose Lobby from the drop-down list at the bottom of the window.
